Sara Simões was born in Lisbon in 1980.
From a very early age she showed a special talent for drawing. In 2002 she graduated in Industrial Design and later furthered her training in animation, web-design and computer 3D modelling. Between 2005 and 2008 her interest in nature led her to study scientific illustration with biologist and scientific illustrator Pedro Salgado. She took part in field sketching expeditions in Portugal (Berlengas islands, Douro river and Madeira laurel forests), and the Amazon. These expeditions were put together by Grupo do Risco, an organisation focused on promoting appreciation for nature and biodiversity through art.
Sara has lent her talent to various activities in the design and illustration fields, such as furniture and trade fair stands design, concept art and storyboarding for 3D animation, and graphic interfaces for educational software.
She authored the book
Uma Mão Cheia de Amoras, and has had artwork published on exhibition catalogues, novels, a scientific magazine and a field guide. Sara is the illustrator of
Sementes à Solta, also by Fernanda Botelho.

Natural de Lisboa, onde nasceu em 1980, Sara Simões mostrou ter, desde pequena, uma apetência especial para o desenho. Não surpreende que se tenha licenciado em Design Industrial e aprofundado a sua formação em áreas afins, como a animação, o webdesign e a modelação a três dimensões por computador.
Entre 2005 e 2007, o gosto pela observação da natureza levou-a a estudar Ilustração Científica com o biólogo Pedro Salgado e, mais tarde, a integrar expedições de desenho de campo às Berlengas, ao Douro Internacional e à Amazónia.
